The Scene : This night was another special occasion in the adventures of the Barflies. The Future Presidents, PornFly and MagnumP.Fly's band, played at Cricket on the Hill, the second place of the night. Good friend and fellow fly, Steve-O played, too. Right next door, and a great warm-up place, is Gabors. Gabors qualifies as one of those places many of us have seen from the outside, but never checked out the inside, and it qualifies as another great find by the club...

The Buzz From The Flies

Back with the club - I know I am a slacker about coming out - but as I have said before - "absence makes the heart grow fonder" Gabors is great because of the mix of people - you never see the same tattoo twice! - Lisa

Felt a very comfortable vibe as we walked into Gabors... Happy to find my east coast favorite (Sam Adams) on tap. My only complaint - the pseudo pint glasses w/angular crevices. They need to provide "real" smooth pint glasses for our drinking pleasure. Other than that, everything is wonderfull...Nothing but smiles all around. - Melissa

Another find! TV - Good music from the box (when it's playing) - a lot of unusuals including Blur, Ella Fitz', old Dylan, and Broadway tunes. A great conversation place. Old Hollywood decor, a great mix of people, pool, and there are handles on the chairs so you can put 'em where you want 'em. Gonna go see Steve-O, but I'll be back soon. - FireFly

You know there are other E's in this world.... Hey. Break it down. - I love the chairs, but the paper towel dispenser in the lady's room needs some instructions. But check out the cut work. The kitchen has a nice spot if you choke through. - The other E (Erin)

A carpeted bar. Red "vinyl" chairs with handles. The pixies on the jukebox. Carpet? The word "dive" would come to mind if not for the Sam Adams on tap and the fact that the waitress didn't demand my money as soon as she set down my beer. Perhaps "Faux Hole" or "Neveau Saloon" would be adequate. For that matter, what hill do I climb to get here? It strikes me as the kind of place I'd be comfortable drinking alone, with it's dark corners and infrequent empty stools at the bar. I think Becowski would have liked a place like this. The beer is cold, a few peculiars, and a kind face or two willing to buy a drink for a down-on-his-luck poet. Perhaps the poets are the only thing missing, because the bar is busy. Loud voices, sports on TV, I'd like to be here at closing time to see the real patrons w/little else to do. Faces not happy, but perhaps content. A place to brood or maybe just bullshit with the man nursing a scotch 3 stools down. I want to see the emptied ashtrays and a solo bartender running a push vacuum at the end of the night as the patrons shuffle out, back tomorrow to soak up the unassuming complacency of comfort in drink - Steve from Chicago
